Here we are it’s Friday and the end of an interesting week with a few visitors to the workshop and a trip over the Humber.
Tony came over from Hull and dropped off his 2003 Stepspeed with us in Xpower Grey (LEF). Initially booked in for preemptive head gasket, we found that the gasket had in fact gone, plus he hadn’t an idea when the cambelt service was last carried out, so we got everything sorted for him to enjoy some worry-free motoring. Great to meet him and see him later in the day when he came to collect following a day out in York with a friend.
Alan had his TF 135 (post LE run car) trailered down to us from Cramlington. The gear cable had snapped, despite his local garages best efforts they were unable to complete the job, one of the reasons being that the gear cables particular to this model are no longer available. Fortunately, we had a new set on stock. Both new cables and new gear selector all fitted and put back together. Lovely as always to see Alan today when he made the journey down to collect.
First call over the bridge was to Barnetby, where it was great to finally meet Neil, we’ve had many conversations regarding his 2004 TF 135 in Xpower Grey that he purchased in April this year. He’s keen to have the car as spot on as he can, so far he’s enjoyed some good runs out with full approval from his two daughters! On our advice he’d contacted Will Naylor for the brake upgrade that he offers, so we got this fitted for him, along with new rear calipers and braided stainless brake hoses all round that he’d bought. Brake fluid flush through, and fitting of a brake-servo bracket. Unfortunately, one of the calipers was faulty, so we refitted the old one, which was still in good working order. We already have a date booked in for the exhaust upgrade so we’ll get the replacement fitted then for him.
From Barnetby, we went over to Grimsby to sort an issue on Louis’s 2002 TF 135 in Solar Red (CMU) that he’d bought as a project car, inevitably it had a few issues that he’s been slowly trying to work through. One of which, that he’d not been able to resolve, was the petrol gauge, which wasn’t showing a true reading. We suspected it to be due to a faulty sender unit, so went over with a replacement, which fortunately solved that. However, it was evident that the issue had previously been looked at and we found that the rubber seal was missing from the top of the fuel pump, not ideal! We have one on stock so will get back over and fit it. Great to meet his lovely partner Jemma, plus meeting all their fab furry friends!
Daniel came over to us from Gainsborough in his 2009 LE 500 in Ignition Blue (number 283) that he’d just recently purchased. He’d noticed a strong smell of fuel when driving so wanted us to check it over. We checked out the fuel pump and the fuel lines and couldn’t find anything obvious or dangerous. We changed over the fuel filter anyway to be sure. It was good to meet him finally and his lovely mum who came out for the drive with him.
Mike had his 1997 MGF VVC, in Nightfire Red (CAQ), shipped up to us from Leicester. The car hasn’t been used for the last 3-4 years for various reasons and he’s keen to get the car back on the road.
Full cambelt service carried out, clutch-slave cylinder replaced, discs and pads checked over, alternator belt replaced, new coolant cap, hydragas pump up, door pins replaced. Couple more bits to do on the list and the car will be all sorted for Mike to enjoy many more miles in.
What beautiful weather most of us have been lucky to experience this week, certainly makes for good working conditions and top down drives! May it continue for a great weekend for all. ☀️ – https://ift.tt/WS9BOiI
