Mobile MG Rover Repair Service

Mobile MG TF Cambelt Service

Cambelt service time again on Ian’s TF 160, and so we headed down to Bromham near Bedford this morning.
We’ve been looking after this car for some time now, which included a full engine replacement about 4 years ago, after it sustained some damage whilst on track due to the oil pump packing up. Ian’s enjoyed many track days since and has recently upgraded the suspension himself to Bilsteins, plus fitting a TT Mk 7 exhaust.

Great to see Ian again, after what seems like ages, and have a catch-up. Hopefully we will get to a track day with him this year!

MGTF 160 Cambelt Service

We then trundled a few miles down the road to Stewartby, where it was great to meet Keith and his wife, and Keith’s fairly new acquisition of an MGF VVC.

Keith had got in touch as it was sitting a little low and needed the hydragas pumping up. This is a really interesting car, it’s a 1997 MGF 143 mems 2J in LVD with a cream interior, plus front fog lights, very low mileage and original Mk 1 hood. Keith’s had the car resprayed, and it looks really good in it’s approaching 25th year.

Cambelt Service and Head Gasket Replacement in Mattersey

A localish one for us over in Mattersey this morning, where it was good to meet Tony for work on his very nice looking 2005 TF 135 that he’s owned for the past 5 years. Enjoying many trips over the time, including runs over to France.

He had noticed that the coolant was going somewhere and was randomly overheating. On investigation this morning it was evident that the head gasket had gone. The cambelt service was also due so everything sorted out for him today. The engine mount bolts didn’t want to come undone, so we went to our Plan B!

All done without any issues and a really enjoyable morning chatting to Tony with some welcome warm weather too. Thanks to Tony for the bottle of champagne, what a lovely treat!

K-Series Engine Remaps

We are a franchise for Kmaps, the K-series engine remapping service.

Kmaps K-Series Engine Remap Service

In brief summary the maps improve engine output by approximately 10% with better throttle response and drivability, whilst also improving fuel economy.

Click here to visit the Kmaps website to view more about what the company does and it’s history.

The K-series engine remap can be carried out at our workshop in Holme-on-Spalding-Moor or at a mobile location* to suit. This might be something worth considering next time we are servicing or working on your MG.

*Please note that we do require a WiFi connection if the service is to be done on a mobile basis.

Early start

Beautiful sunny morning with an early start ahead of a busy day at the workshop. Our first visitor was David who had got in touch back in April, as a result of one our business cards being slotted under the wipers of his MGF 143 VVC, courtesy of Susan Farley, when stopping off in Rothbury on a day out.

David stayed over locally last night and we returned him back to his digs so he could spend the day in York.Cambelt service carried out, alternator belt replaced, radiator replaced (his was the original that was a tad on the crumbly side), new grills fitted to the front, oil change, the slam panel etc needed a bit of fettling and new shiny kit fitted, few other niggles sorted out too. Good to see the smile on David’s face when we picked him back up and he saw the changes. Big thanks to Susan from us and David.

Great to meet Phil finally, who came over for a health check on his new acquisition, a TF 135 in Royal Blue. Date booked in next year ahead of the MOT. Hope you both enjoyed your run out to Dalby Forest, we know you’re waiting for the hard top comments! Great to meet you and have a chat, look forward to seeing you again next year!

Ray had got in touch a couple of days ago as he had noticed a slight loss in coolant, so he popped over, from Hull, for us to investigate what was occurring. Finally it was sourced to be the heater control valve that had sprung a leak. One is now on order and date to be arranged to fit. Really nice to have a chat and a catch-up.Finishing touches done to Zara, ahead of her return home. Bit tired now, but a really enjoyable day. Admin time now and Gas Monkey to watch followed by an episode of the Grand Tour.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Back in the workshop

Couple of enjoyable and productive days back in the workshop again…

Pete’s very tidy TF 135 was up on the lift yesterday morning for underfloor treatment, underfloor coolant pipes replaced with stainless and brake fluid change.

Then today the rest of underfloor treatment was done and all looking really good.

Great to see David again today, who we last saw when we did the head gasket replacement on the car, in Grimsby, a couple of years ago, on his lovely looking TF 135 in Firefrost Red, this one is 1 of 31 produced in CEV paint with the PUU trim. It was very admired by the postmen and our neighbours whilst in with us today.

Minor service carried out, plus health check. Grease points greased up and sill drainage holes checked, a couple needed unblocking. Code read showed zero error codes.

Few finishing touches on Pete’s car and all ready for collection at the weekend.

A start back to it

Wednesday spent on a MGF Panther 143 for a head gasket replacement. Nice to meet Glen at a distance and very briefly! Left on our own in a workshop for the morning.

Thursday spent on Stephens’ TF 160 in Chesterfield, for his annual pre MOT check and a few other niggles, some of which he wasn’t aware of, the engine bay fan was coming on on start up, so on code reading it was down to the ECU temperature sensor being faulty, so this was replaced with a new one. All other niggles resolved. Didn’t see Stephen at all, keys left for us.

Then today’s call was in Skipton, and lovely to meet Steve and Rebecca, both again at a great distance.

Steve had brought the car over from Ireland with him, having bought it from Aberdeen. There was very little service history with this very tidy TF 135, so he wanted peace of mind that it would be a sound car to enjoy. Head gasket and cambelt service carried out. The car had not been touched since leaving the factory and was in such great condition and with very low mileage.

Social distancing observed in all regards, no stops to or from our locations. Cars and keys disinfected and payments made by BT. So, a positive start, but being very mindful of keeping safe!

“PHASED RETURN” to our Mobile Work…

Having just listened to the PM’s announcement this evening we will be acting on the current advice. Therefore, as of Wednesday, we will be restarting our mobile work, but on a very limited basis in terms of area covered. We will get out to everyone that we can get sorted within a day and therefore won’t need to stop off anywhere en route.

As the time goes on and the hotels etc all get back up and running in the following weeks/months we look forward to seeing all of you further afield.

It will be a very phased return, we will continue with safe distancing and disinfect cars and keys as we go.

Again, we really appreciate everyone’s support and patience during this very difficult time.

Our best wishes, please stay safe and look forward to seeing you, hopefully soon, on the other side! 😷💙🌈
